Voluntary Simplicity

Frog Holler Farm is the home, working and living place of the King family, Ken and Cathy, Billy(22), Kenny(18) and Edwin(14). Consisting of 153 acres of land in the Irish Hills of southeast lower Michigan, it is a rugged, beautiful terrain with woods, a 10 acre spring fed pond, a house, a cabin and a barn. The surrounding neighborhood is rural residential, typically small homes on 5 acres. The nearest urban cultural center is 30 miles away, Ann Arbor and University of Michigan. Since 1972 the main activities at Frog Holler have been organic truck farming and homesteading, home schooling, yoga and music. The King family’s personal life style has centered around natural foods, ecological responsibility and healthy physical, academic and spiritual practices. Much has been accomplished and there are many concerns still to be met. The latter often involve the balancing of sometimes narrow though hopefully positive choices and beliefs with the cultivation of tolerance and openness for other societal influences, and a growing recognition of the need for input and interaction.
